Today I want to share some life-changing insight with you from a book that made me realize that everything I’ve ever achieved was because of the principles behind it. I recently finished reading The Compound Effect: Jumpstart Your Income, Your Life, Your Success by Darren Hardy, publisher of SUCCESS Magazine and NY Times bestselling author. Of course, I highly recommend you get yourself a copy of this book.
There were so many ah-ha moments in this book that just explained why when I had approached life or a challenge in a certain way that it either worked for me or against me. One ah-ha moment for me was the fact that overnight success is not how it happens, but it sometimes appears that way to others.
Rather it’s about staying with something you truly believe in and making that consistent effort on a regular basis, changing your behaviors/habits to align with that goal or desire, so you keep the momentum going. Eventually if you stay with something long enough with the right actions and commitment, it will happen for you. It’s just a matter of time. Really empowering and fascinating, if you ask me!
What I love most about this book is how it clearly outlines in a practical no non-sense way how to distinguish yourself from everyone else to be extraordinary in everything you do. I know you want to be extraordinary – right?
And if you’re not thinking extraordinary is where you want to go, well then focus on something in your life that you have yet to achieve – that relationship, dream job, success in work you love, trip of a lifetime, your optimal health, freedom. You may be unsure where to start or frustrated and perhaps have already given up thinking it will never happen for you. Well, it’s time to stop that nonsense thinking right now. Because right here and now this moment and everything you do going forward counts! It will define your present and future life.
Again, let’s remind you, you’re Courageous & Remarkable already, and you don’t give up and let disappointment, fears, doubts, judgments of others, procrastination, self-sabotaging behaviors, get the best of you! That’s for sure. It’s not to say that this won’t come up for you, because that still remains the case even for the most successful people in the world.
However, it’s what we choose to do when disappointment, fears, doubts, judgments from others, procrastination, self-sabotaging behaviors shows up in our face to take over our life that makes all the difference. Darren speaks about how The Compound Effect is always working – whether for us, against us, or keeping us in the crossroads.
Keep this statement in mind when you feel resistance to change. “There is one thing that 99 percent of ‘failures’ and ‘successful’ folks have in common– they all hate doing the same things. The difference is successful people do them anyway. Change is hard.” Darren Hardy
I discovered this little secret unbeknownst to me 5 years ago, when I decided to learn to love something I hated – running. From that one decision, that one commitment, and from being open to change, my life shifted in ways I could have never imagined prior to that decision. What started as a simple decision to learn to love something I hated by becoming a runner, as a way to get over my seven year relationship with my boyfriend, forever changed my life! Doing this taught me how to take risks, live more intentionally, and travel the world fearlessly.
And before I knew it, I was on my way to discovering my Courageous & Remarkable Self.
So that leads me to share that I’m finishing up my book proposal for the book that I decided to get serious about writing rather than waiting to be discovered somehow through my blog articles or through social media or through my articles on Huffington Post. It’s one thing to hold a vision, and then to make that a reality, you need to take action. Sometimes that very well means doing things that make us feel uncomfortable, makes us take risks, makes us reevaluate the people in our lives, challenges our own thinking and beliefs and approach to life, makes us embrace change and flow more.
Know this. Now’s the time to realize the power you hold to your destiny. It’s all up to you right here and now with that one decision you make. So what’s it going to be for you?
