I’ve been repeating myself. What I mean is I’ve been saying this same analogy to my clients recently, which revolves around change and leaning into change when you don’t have all the answers yet.
If you’re feeling reluctant or ambivalent about a specific change or creating change, I get it. I see you. While I tend to embrace change these days, I can still get triggered myself.
While some of us run toward change, some of us avoid it altogether. Based on my experience personally and working with clients, I’ve seen that change is typically about control to some degree.
We want to control a certain outcome. We want to anticipate all the what-ifs. We don’t want things to change or rather have it go back to the way it was before. We want to know if it will be worth it. We want to know if we won’t fail or make a mistake.
Basically, why take that chance if there’s no certainty on how it will work out?
Truth is you’ll never have all the answers. Change is the only constant. You’re either moving with change or resisting change. You’re either evolving or standing still. You’re either repeating patterns or breaking free.
Whether this is about taking a different approach, stepping into or navigating through a new role, project, relationship, boss, or routine. Knowing where you’ll start is enough. You don’t need to have the path all figured out, before beginning. It just might not be possible to have it all planned out.
Sure, knowing your initial approach, aligning with the right mindset, having communication scripts, resources, and tools by your side will support you. (By the way, this is the work I do with my clients, strategizing with them and coaching them so they feel more prepared.)
Let’s get back to that analogy. Think of it as hiking on a new trail, or going on some new adventure. The path will unfold and reveal itself as you hike along it. You can expect that the end of the path is miles away in the distance. Making the summit or the end of the trek not visible. Then add in some fog, now your focus becomes literally what’s right here, right in front of you. This very next step. That’s it. If you’re committed, you’ll continue.
You just need to trust more. You need to lean into courage. You need to have more faith and confidence in yourself. Take one step at a time, while being so present in the moment, and be your authentic self. This is what truly matters the most.
Stay curious and open to the possibilities. Stay connected to your truth.
Lean into that change. I’m here for you.
