How to Prepare for Your Dream Job

Blog - How to find your dream job-Interviewing v2

On last Thursday, February 9, 2012, I attended my first school advisory board event at Half Hollow Hills High School, where I facilitated roundtable discussions on Job interviewing. So thrilled I had the opportunity to interact with the students and to teach them about real expectations in the corporate world along with how to prepare for the job interview. Really noticeable was the enthusiasm and eagerness to learn that was exhibited from these business class students who attended this smaller more interactive event.

To begin with, the corporate world is so different than academia/college. Definitely keep your sense of wanting to make an impact within a company and to create change. However, recognize that it will probably take time maybe even a few years before you may be able to move [Continue Reading...]

Respect & Honor Your Inner-Neurotic Quirky Self!

Never leave home without your almonds.
Never leave home without your almonds.

Ready – I have a confession to share with you about myself. I’m a bit neurotic. Alright, more like way neurotic with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) tendencies to help me feel prepared for the unexpected. I literally won’t leave home without water, and almonds or other snacks with me because sometimes I’m out longer than planned.

Also, it’s quite possible that you may find yourself stranded when your car breaks down and you need to wait for AAA to finally show up hours later. This has happened to me before – on several occasions. It’s very frustrating and outside your control. See, the water and almonds make perfect sense now – right? And my friends definitely appreciate it when I have some extra snacks in my pocketbook for sharing. It’s all good!

Welcome back to the final week of How to Motivate Yourself to Succeed!

Previously, in the first week, we spoke about how the outcome of your goals and dreams is greatly influenced by your motivation as much or even more so then your ability, in many cases. At this time, I would like to introduce another concept to you, which is Self-efficacy. What is self-efficacy?

Self-efficacy is the belief in your ability to accomplish a task. Research tells us that even when the factor of ability is controlled, self-efficacy has an impact in performance.

Self-efficacy is different than self-esteem/confidence. Self-esteem or confidence is how you feel about yourself overall. Whereas, self-efficacy is really about how you think about yourself in one particular area. A person can have low self-efficacy in a sport or particular [Continue Reading...]

Over the years, I’ve developed a few strategies that have worked for me as well as for friends, business associates, coworkers, employees, and management that I have supported in terms of achieving goals. Previously, I’ve created and lead sessions of the interactive workshop on “How to Motivate Yourself to Succeed!” So to have more people, like yourself, benefit from this knowledge, I’m going to share some of my secrets with you.

Before we move into discussing the motivational strategies, I want you to keep in mind that your performance is determined not only by your ability but also most importantly by your motivation.

Isn’t that somewhat relieving and empowering! Because realizing this concept of motivation allows you to see how you have a huge degree of influence on the outcome by [Continue Reading...]
