“I’ve decided” is ranked high on the list, as the two most powerful words you can say. Because there’s a commitment behind it, it’s a conviction! Claim what you want, what you want to step into.
Implementing this principle made a huge difference for me, and I’ve seen the same happen for my clients. It creates change, results, and desires become a reality. Anything I’ve wanted came from making a decision first.
Once you’ve decided, you start to take actions that support that decision, quite often easily and immediately. It’s like, of course, I’m doing this because I’ve-decided-and-the resistance-excuses-have-lifted. It simply doesn’t have the same hold on you. There’s this powerful force or momentum that you’ve aligned yourself with and what you stand for.
Want clarity on how to do this for yourself? It goes something like this…
- Ask yourself: What do you want to see, experience, feel, and/or desire in your life? Who do you want to become? What do you want to do, create, or accomplish?
- Another way to get clear and have different experiences or results, ask yourself: Where were you disappointed in the past? Write out that statement or say it in your mind or out loud. Then flip it to “I’ve decided” one. Simple, yet empowering exercise.
You can drop the “I’ll try,” “I hope,” “I wish,” and “I should” because that creates a weak link (doubt) in the statement and a way out. Keeps you lingering in between or in the same place. I have a feeling you don’t have time for this nonsense, right? Kind of over it!
For inspiration, let me share a few of my past decisions over the years, (in no particular order or level of importance), here we go:
- I’ve decided to become a role model. (And this became my reason for living.)
- I’ve decided that’s my neighborhood.
- I’ve decided to become a runner.
- I’ve decided to become a writer.
- I’ve decided I’m ready for a promotion.
- I’ve decided I’m going to show up everywhere as my authentic self, even in the workplace.
- I’ve decided to make bold requests. I’ve decided to take (calculated) risks.
- I’ve decided to keep the faith.
- I’ve decided to travel solo on group tours rather than wait for friends or boyfriend to show up.
- I’ve decided to hike the Inca Trail.
- I’ve decided to give yoga a second chance.
- I’ve decided to give CrossFit a chance.
- I’ve decided to prioritize deep and meaningful connections.
- I’ve decided enough is enough with feeling disappointed.
- I’ve decided I’m done with being single. I’ve decided to open my heart to love again.
- I’ve decided I’m no longer compromising my health.
- I’ve decided I’m on the other side of this.
- I’ve decided to drop the excuses for results or changes I want to see in my life.
- I’ve decided I’m no longer available for people who disrespect me or my time.
- I’ve decided I’m no longer available for people who don’t take accountability for their actions.
- I’ve decided I’m worthy. I’ve decided I’m enough.
- I’ve decided I’m ready.
- I’ve decided this is going to work.
- I’ve decided this is going to work out well, and I’m committed to doing what it takes.
- I’ve decided everything has prepared me for this moment. I’m ready. It’s time. I’ve decided.
Tell me what you’ve decided for yourself that you’re claiming for this year. (Today’s a perfect day to take a few minutes to figure this out.) Keep coming back to your list often to remind yourself. Daily, weekly, monthly.
