It’s performance appraisal time in the workplace. Don’t you just love being judged on what you’ve accomplished? Ah, yeah, not so much.

Truth be told, as a HR professional, I used to dread and really dislike the entire process –self-appraisal, performance review with my boss, how I was measuring up to my boss’ expectations, and receiving constructive feedback.

As a Recovering Perfectionist, I definitely get it. I wanted to be a Super Star in every aspect of my life, which isn’t possible. I wanted to achieve “exceeds expectations” rating basically on every objective, while demonstrating the values & behaviors. I was making myself crazy and causing unnecessary stress for myself.

Performance Review process would almost always leave me thinking, “Was I good enough in my role and for this organization?”

If you’re anything like me and have moments of feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, obsessed over the right approach and the end result, well I’ve got a secret for you to rock your world and give you back your liberation! However, before I get into this secret, let me share a work moment that recently happened.

Just a few weeks ago, I had an employee come down seriously annoyed about a coworker interaction she just had, and as a result, she was refusing to collaborate with this coworker any longer. It was definitely a case of a personality conflict/miscommunication. As in any HR employee relations matter, I allowed the employee to tell me what brought her down, asked her the appropriate questions and listened to what she had to say. We had [Continue Reading...]

Just thinking about all the catch up I need to do can stress me out. Ever feel like this? Seriously, between finishing up work initiatives, social gatherings/events, writing projects, my book proposal, it can all get a little overwhelming.

Thinking about work, there have been times for me when I never thought I would ever catch up with Employee Relations notes. To elaborate further, Employee Relations is simply described as an issue in the workplace related to an employee, whether it is just that employee, between several employees, or even a more serious complaint made against another employee/management or the company.

When people ask me what do I do in my HR role, I typically respond that I manage every aspect of HR for the facility I support, which includes hiring, firing, [Continue Reading...]

Where do we go from here?

Your mission should you choose to accept it…Will be Mission Resume Review Operation with the intent to provide insight of the ins and outs of creating an academic/professional resume done in an informal setting of High School Library.

Can you handle this mission?
Do you choose to accept this mission?

I’m pleased to do so as a Business Partnership Member. Thank-you for the assignment. I promise to do what I can to prepare the High School Students to the best of my ability with critiquing and providing insight on resume writing.

Present day
Here to report that last Thursday, April 19th, 2012, with over 50 Half Hollow Hills High School students in attendance and about 10 Partnership Members – the mission was accomplished!

It was the first of [Continue Reading...]

Blog - How to find your dream job-Interviewing v2

On last Thursday, February 9, 2012, I attended my first school advisory board event at Half Hollow Hills High School, where I facilitated roundtable discussions on Job interviewing. So thrilled I had the opportunity to interact with the students and to teach them about real expectations in the corporate world along with how to prepare for the job interview. Really noticeable was the enthusiasm and eagerness to learn that was exhibited from these business class students who attended this smaller more interactive event.

To begin with, the corporate world is so different than academia/college. Definitely keep your sense of wanting to make an impact within a company and to create change. However, recognize that it will probably take time maybe even a few years before you may be able to move [Continue Reading...]

PRAISE

I loved reading this! I read it twice. This is by far one of the best statements I’ve come across…”holding on longer came at a very big expense of taking or challenging my spirit for life, my energy/motivation, my time, my goals/dreams, my focus, and my physical/mental/emotional health!

Sarina’s intelligent, tactful, yet straight forward demeanor blends well with multiple personalities. As an HR Manager and Life Coach, she has incredible insight as well as great presentation skills. Having had the opportunity to attend a seminar she gave on How to Win Over the Hiring Manager, it was impressive to see how engaged the audience was, and the take away of helpful hints was over the top. Having attended seminars with many of the top ‘name brand’ training companies, I can say that the training received from Sarina was outstanding in its practical, no-nonsense and immediately applicable approach. Sarina was excellent at keeping the whole group involved. The experience was a great investment for all who participated.

I cannot thank you enough for all that you did! Thank you for your advice throughout the process. The article, Are you Obsessing Over or Manifesting What you Desire, truly inspired me and was very personally relevant to my situation. Great advice and kept me focused on the right energy without obsessing and led to the desired outcome! I was truly not attached to the outcome, just hopeful of it. What less stress and anxiety I felt, as a result. Highly recommend this Manifesting concept!

Sarina as a speaker is inspiring and engaging. Her perspective of Learning How to Embrace Change and How she became a Half Marathon Runner left a lasting impression on my High School Students. How to ʺbounce backʺ from some tough obstacles was empowering and insightful on the approach to life. Keep doing what you’re doing! Look forward to having you back as a Class Speaker!

I just wanted to say I never told you what an amazing woman I thought you were and such a great role model. I know I’m older, but I definitely learned a thing or two from you. It took me some time, but I’m finding my way.
